1. Databases/Indexing Services Listed by NMC
The 2025 Regulations define a research publication as eligible only when it is an:
- Original research paper
- Meta-analysis
- Systematic review
- Case series
and is published in a journal indexed in the databases specified by NMC, namely:
- MEDLINE
- PubMed Central (PMC)
- Science Citation Index (SCI)
- Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE)
- EMBASE
- Scopus
- Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)
2. Authorship Requirement
For the 2025 regulations, the publication requirement specifies that the faculty member must be among the first three authors. Thus, the 1st, 2nd or 3rd author position is relevant.
3. Publications Required
For promotion:

| Associate Professor → Professor | 2 additional eligible research publications |
The regulations also specify the relevant teaching experience and other requirements for these promotions.
